Global cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has launched its inaugural “Anti-Phishing Month” campaign, aiming to unite user education, incentivisation, and technical safeguards to bolster defences against the rising tide of phishing threats. The announcement underscores KuCoin’s renewed emphasis on embedding security as a shared responsibility between the platform and its users.

Highlighting the urgency behind the campaign, KuCoin cited data from the Anti-Phishing Working Group, which reported that phishing incidents worldwide surpassed one million in the first quarter of 2025, with more than 30 percent of those targeting payment and financial platforms. Email and SMS remain the primary delivery methods, with the heaviest concentration of attacks observed in Europe, Asia, and Australia. These figures illustrate the scale of the challenge facing exchanges and their customers, and why proactive initiatives are needed.

The exchange has framed the month around a three-step program it calls “Learn + Quiz + Defend.” Users are encouraged first to complete modules designed to boost awareness about how phishing schemes operate. They are then asked to take quizzes to reinforce their knowledge. The final step involves enabling KuCoin’s anti-phishing code, a personalised marker embedded in official communications that allows users to instantly distinguish genuine messages from fakes.

Each stage comes with rewards, turning the otherwise dry subject of security awareness into an interactive and incentivised experience. The design ensures that vigilance is strengthened while user engagement is rewarded, making security a more accessible and participatory process.

Alongside these gamified educational measures, KuCoin is reinforcing the platform with an expanded suite of defensive technologies. Its intelligent risk control system is already intercepting and halting more than 5,000 high-risk access attempts every day, ranging from suspicious logins to attempted withdrawals.

Real-time alerts also cover all critical account activities such as logins, withdrawals, and API modifications, with multi-factor authentication woven throughout the process. These safeguards ensure that users are immediately alerted to unusual actions on their accounts, giving them the chance to act before damage is done.

In addition, KuCoin continues to update its Security Academy resources, which present case studies and practical advice that help users stay alert to evolving tactics. By keeping information flowing consistently, the exchange aims to sustain long-term vigilance rather than leaving users with one-off lessons.

BC Wong, KuCoin’s CEO, underlined the thinking behind the initiative, saying that security should not only be the responsibility of the platform but also an ability every user possesses. He described the campaign as a way of combining technology and education to build a crypto ecosystem in which every participant is empowered to protect themselves.

This perspective reflects a growing belief within the industry that technology alone cannot stop phishing, and that user awareness and quick reactions are just as essential to building resilience. KuCoin is effectively signaling that trust in digital assets is strengthened when both sides, users and platforms, act in concert.

For KuCoin, the launch of Anti-Phishing Month marks a shift toward a more holistic approach to security. Rather than positioning the exchange as the sole guardian, it treats cybersecurity as a collaborative effort between the company and its community. By incentivising users to take part in training and encouraging them to adopt proactive security features, the exchange is betting that its defence posture will be far stronger than one based only on behind-the-scenes infrastructure.

Since its founding in 2017, KuCoin has grown to serve more than 41 million users across over 200 countries, offering trading access to more than 1,000 digital assets as well as services ranging from institutional trading solutions to Web3 wallets.

Security initiatives such as Anti-Phishing Month add a new layer to these accomplishments, embedding safety not just in systems and processes but in user behavior as well. The exchange is sending a message that secure infrastructure is only as strong as the people who use it, and that empowerment is a key pillar of resilience.

For everyday users, the initiative carries clear practical benefits. Enabling the anti-phishing code helps ensure they can instantly verify communications as legitimate. Engaging with the educational content makes them more capable of spotting scams before clicking links or entering sensitive information.

By staying responsive to alerts and unusual account activity, users can also act quickly to shut down threats. When taken together, these steps empower users to become proactive guardians of their own digital assets while reinforcing trust in the platform itself.

From a wider industry perspective, KuCoin’s campaign also represents a case study in how exchanges can bolster their reputations. Trust is one of the most important commodities in the crypto sector, where market volatility and external skepticism often put platforms under intense scrutiny. By investing in education and incentivising safe practices, KuCoin is positioning itself not only as a marketplace for trading but also as a partner in safeguarding user wealth.

That positioning may prove valuable as regulators and institutions continue to press the industry to raise its standards. With phishing showing no signs of slowing down, exchanges that take steps to build both technological barriers and human awareness will likely enjoy stronger reputations and deeper user loyalty.

KuCoin’s Anti-Phishing Month campaign therefore does more than address a technical problem; it reshapes the conversation about security in digital finance. The message is clear: security is not only engineered in code, it is cultivated in behavior. As phishing continues to evolve in scope and sophistication, the campaign offers a roadmap for exchanges that want to balance technical innovation with human vigilance, and for users who want more than passive reliance on platforms to keep them safe.
