Emirates has officially broken ground on a new $5.1 billion aviation engineering facility at Dubai South, marking one of the airline’s largest infrastructure investments to date.
The airline said the ultra-modern complex is being developed to support the future growth of its engineering and maintenance operations as global aviation demand continues to rise. Once completed, the project is expected to become the world’s largest aviation engineering facility.
The complex will have the capacity to service multiple wide-body aircraft simultaneously, including Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
The facility will span approximately 1.1 million square meters, making it one of the largest buildings in the world by volume and the largest steel structure in the GCC region. The airline said the complex will include the world’s only hangar facility capable of simultaneously servicing 28 wide-body aircraft, alongside two advanced paint hangars designed to support Emirates’ growing fleet requirements.
Other major features of the development include what Emirates described as the world’s largest free-span aircraft hangar at 285 meters wide, the world’s largest dedicated landing gear workshop, and roughly 77,000 square meters of specialized repair and maintenance workshop space. The site will also include approximately 380,000 square meters of logistics and storage capacity, in addition to dedicated office, training, and operational support facilities for Emirates Engineering teams.
Strengthening Dubai’s Aviation Infrastructure
The project will be located near Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai South, an area that has become increasingly important to Dubai’s long-term aviation and logistics ambitions.
Emirates said the facility is designed to centralize a wide range of engineering activities under one location, including aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul, and technical support services.
