Saudi Arabia - Savvy Games to Purchase Moonton, the studio behind Mobile Legends, from ByteDance in a $6 billion deal.
Reports of ByteDance entering advanced talks to sell Moonton Technology to Savvy Games Group for $6–$7 billion emerged last week. Sources indicated the deal could close by the end of the quarter, with both sides said to have agreed on the broad terms.
Bloomberg reports the deal is valued at around $6 billion and is expected to close in the near term. Moonton’s current leadership will remain in place, with incentives planned for existing employees.
The acquisition remains in progress, with neither ByteDance nor Moonton issuing an official statement. An internal Moonton letter dated March 20, circulating online, indicated that Savvy Games intends to acquire the company, with the transaction expected to close soon. Once completed, Moonton will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Savvy.
Founded in 2014, Moonton initially targeted international markets. Its flagship MOBA title, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, surged in popularity across Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia, following its launch, and continues to rank among the top revenue-generating games globally. For ByteDance, it provides an opportunity to exit a profitable but non-core business while securing a stronger-than-expected return.
