Launched on March 6, 2025, World Chat is now available as a mini app within the World App wallet, accessible on iOS and Android. It allows users to send messages and make crypto payments effortlessly while ensuring they interact with verified humans.
Using World Network’s digital passport system, which relies on iris-scanning technology for verification, World Chat aims to counter AI-generated interactions and enhance trust in digital communication.
With AI increasingly mimicking human behavior, verifying real users has become crucial. World Chat tackles this by assigning a blue chat bubble and a unique World ID gem to verified accounts, while unverified users appear with a gray chat bubble.
This differentiation helps users avoid bots and spam, reinforcing World Network’s vision of a trusted online ecosystem.
Beyond messaging, World Chat enables users to send and receive cryptocurrencies, such as USDC, directly within conversations. This makes transactions as simple as texting, reducing the friction often associated with crypto transfers.
The feature is currently in beta but is expected to expand integration with other Mini Apps to increase adoption and utility.
World Chat is one of many “Mini Apps” within the World App. These lightweight, web-based applications provide native-like experiences without requiring separate downloads.
Since their launch in October 2024, Mini Apps have seen significant traction, with over 250 million opens in the first two months of 2025. Developers can also integrate World Chat into their own apps, further expanding its reach.
World Chat prioritizes privacy, using end-to-end encryption to ensure that only the intended recipients can read messages. This approach addresses concerns over data security and unauthorized surveillance in digital communication.
To boost innovation, World Network launched “World Build”, an incubator program for developers. Supported by firms like Alchemy, Bain Crypto Capital, and Blockchain Capital, the program offers mentorship and funding to projects building on the platform.
World Build runs from January to May 2025, featuring hackathons, retreats, and a demo day, fostering new Mini Apps to drive user engagement.
Despite its technological progress, World Network faces regulatory and market challenges:
World Chat represents a significant step toward secure, real-human communication and integrated financial transactions. By ensuring users are verified, World Network aims to reduce bots, scams, and fraud while making crypto payments more accessible.
As AI-generated interactions continue to rise, World Chat could set a new standard for identity verification and secure online communication in the digital age.
