Unstoppable Domains and Digital Future Studio have launched a new blockchain-based top-level domain, “.digitalfuture,” using the World Economic Forum in Davos as the backdrop for the announcement. The development reflects a growing effort by technology builders to establish clearer digital identities as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and emerging regulation increasingly overlap.

The new domain extension is positioned as a branding and identity tool for founders, developers, and organizations working at the edge of technological change. Rather than serving purely as a web address, the companies describe .digitalfuture as a signal, one that reflects long-term ambition, experimentation, and readiness for the next phase of the digital economy. The decision to launch the initiative at Davos, where policymakers, investors, and corporate leaders gather each year, underscores the strategic tone of the rollout.

At its core, the launch builds on Unstoppable Domains’ model of blockchain-based naming. Unlike traditional domain names, which are leased through centralised registrars and require ongoing renewals, blockchain domains are minted and owned by users directly. Ownership is recorded on public blockchains, allowing domains to function as permanent digital assets rather than subscription services.

This distinction has helped blockchain domains gain traction across Web3 communities, where they are commonly used as wallet identifiers, decentralized website addresses, and login credentials for blockchain-based applications. In practice, a single domain can replace long wallet strings, act as a public-facing identity, and link together a project’s on-chain and off-chain presence.

Michelle O’Connor, Founder and CEO of Digital Future Studio, said, “.digitalfuture is about giving builders a signal that matches their ambition,” O’Connor said. “The most consequential moments in a company’s journey happen before consensus. When regulation, innovation, AI, and narrative collide, you need infrastructure that moves as fast as you do. This domain is a marker of intent for teams building what comes next.”

From Unstoppable Domains’ perspective, the launch fits into a broader shift toward digital identity becoming a core layer of online infrastructure. Sandy Carter, Chief Business Officer at Unstoppable Domains, noted, “.digitalfuture gives founders a simple but powerful way to anchor their identity to where they are going, not where the market has already been,” Carter said. “As AI, Web3, and financial infrastructure converge, naming becomes part of the trust layer. Launching this at Davos underscores the role digital identity will play in shaping the next era of global innovation.”

The timing is notable. As governments and regulators around the world work to define rules for digital assets, decentralized finance, and tokenized systems, builders are increasingly navigating a hybrid environment that blends Web2 conventions with Web3 tools. Domain names, long a foundational element of the internet, are now being re-examined in that context, not just as routing mechanisms, but as expressions of ownership and credibility.

Blockchain-based domains also introduce functional differences that appeal to developers. Because they are stored on public ledgers, they can integrate directly with wallets and decentralized applications. They can be used for peer-to-peer payments, decentralized website hosting via systems such as IPFS, and authentication across Web3 platforms. These features have pushed blockchain domains beyond novelty status and into practical use across parts of the digital asset ecosystem.

At the same time, the sector remains distinct from the traditional domain name system governed by ICANN. Blockchain domains do not rely on central registries, which gives users more control but also introduces challenges around interoperability, trademark enforcement, and mainstream browser support. These trade-offs continue to shape how quickly decentralized naming systems can be adopted beyond crypto-native audiences.

Unstoppable Domains, founded in 2018, has been one of the more prominent companies pushing this model forward. The firm reports millions of registered domains across its platform and has expanded its catalogue to include a range of extensions tailored to different communities and use cases. While adoption remains strongest within Web3, interest has broadened as enterprises explore how decentralized identity tools might fit into longer-term digital strategies.

Against that backdrop, .digitalfuture appears designed less for immediate mass adoption and more for early-stage builders who want to anchor their identity around forward-looking narratives. The domain’s branding aligns with themes that frequently surface at Davosm innovation, long-term thinking, and the reshaping of economic systems through technology.

Startups and developers in fast-moving markets are paying closer attention to how they present themselves online. Digital identity has become part of that equation, with domain choices often signaling seriousness, technical alignment, or a readiness to engage with new infrastructure before it becomes mainstream. In that context, .digitalfuture operates not just as a functional tool, but as a clear statement of intent.
