Elon Musk has announced the formation of the "America Party," a centrist political entity that aims to disrupt the traditional two-party system in the United States. This development follows a public fallout with President Donald Trump over the recently passed "One Big Beautiful Bill," which Musk criticized for its fiscal irresponsibility.

Musk's America Party positions itself as a pro-business, fiscally conservative alternative to the existing political landscape. The party's platform emphasizes deficit reduction, modernization of the military through artificial intelligence, deregulation, and encouraging higher birth rates. Musk envisions the party focusing on key Senate and House races in the 2026 midterms to act as a legislative kingmaker, influencing contentious policies, especially on spending.

A notable aspect of the America Party's platform is its embrace of Bitcoin. Musk has been a long-time supporter of cryptocurrencies, with both SpaceX and Tesla holding Bitcoin in their corporate treasuries. He has criticized the U.S. government's fiscal policies, highlighting a projected $2.4 trillion increase in the fiscal deficit due to tax reforms, and has expressed concerns over the stability of fiat currency.

President Trump has responded to Musk's political ambitions with sharp criticism, describing Musk as having gone "off the rails" and becoming a "train wreck" in recent weeks. Trump dismissed the viability of third parties in the U.S., suggesting they only create "disruption and chaos," and defended the Republican Party as a well-functioning political machine.

The feud intensified after Congress passed Trump's major legislative bill, which eliminated the Electric Vehicle Mandate, a move Musk opposed strongly, as it potentially impacts Tesla's sales. Trump claimed Musk had previously supported him despite knowing the EV Mandate would be terminated.

Tesla investors are growing increasingly frustrated with CEO Elon Musk's deepening involvement in politics. Dan Ives notes that investors feel a "sense of exhaustion" as Musk shifts focus from Tesla operations to political ambitions, including the formation of the America Party. This move follows Musk’s feud with President Donald Trump, particularly over the "Big Beautiful Bill," which eliminated incentives to buy electric vehicles. Ives believes Musk's political engagement is detrimental to Tesla, especially at a critical time when the company's performance is declining.

While Musk's financial resources and massive online reach give him a unique edge, some argue that without a solid voter base or Trump's support, his influence may be limited. Questions remain about the feasibility of a successful third party in the entrenched U.S. political structure.

Nevertheless, Musk's determination signals a serious attempt to challenge the status quo in American politics. The America Party's focus on fiscal conservatism, technological advancement, and cryptocurrency adoption presents a novel approach that could resonate with voters disillusioned by the current political system.

As the political landscape evolves, the impact of Musk's America Party on the upcoming 2026 midterms and beyond remains to be seen.
