Bashaar Yahya Al Qunaibit entered Bank Albilad’s top job with an unusual combination of continuity and change. Appointed CEO effective June 1, 2026, he was not arriving as an outsider asked to rewrite the institution’s direction. He had already spent years inside the bank, most recently as senior executive vice president of business.
That background gives Al Qunaibit detailed knowledge of Bank Albilad’s commercial operations. His appointment also provides continuity as he takes responsibility for advancing the bank’s established strategy.
A Leadership Transition From Within
Bank Albilad’s board approved Al Qunaibit’s appointment on April 23 after receiving a non-objection from the Saudi Central Bank. He succeeded Abdulaziz Mohammed AlOnaizan, who stepped down as CEO to assume another role within the bank. The leadership change took effect on June 1, 2026.
The transition kept both executives within the institution, providing Bank Albilad with a measure of continuity at the board and management levels. Saudi Exchange records now identify AlOnaizan as the bank’s non-executive chairman and Al Qunaibit as CEO.
Al Qunaibit holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration as well as academic and professional certifications. He brings more than 25 years of professional experience, primarily in banking and financial services.
His connection to Bank Albilad’s senior leadership predates the appointment by several years. The bank’s 2022 annual report listed him as senior executive vice president of business, placing him near the center of its commercial decision-making well before he took charge of the organization.
A Leader with a Limited Public Profile
Unlike executives who cultivate a visible presence through frequent interviews and conference appearances, Al Qunaibit has maintained a relatively restrained public profile.
His appointment appears to rest on operating experience and institutional familiarity rather than on a public-facing executive persona.
Al Qunaibit also serves as a member of the executive management group of the Saudi Banks Media and Awareness Committee. The role places him alongside the chief executives of several other Saudi financial institutions on an industry body focused on banking awareness and public communication.
