The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) posted a 43% year-on-year increase in net profit before tax, reaching $52.6 million (AED 193.3 million) in the first quarter, up from $36.7 million (AED 134.9 million) in the same period last year.

The performance reflects a period of heightened market activity, with trading volumes and investor engagement rising alongside earnings.

One of the clearest indicators of momentum came from trading volumes. Average daily traded value (ADTV) reached $280.4 million (AED 1.03 billion) during the quarter, compared with $180.5 million (AED 663 million) a year earlier, marking a 56% increase. Total trading value climbed to $16.6 billion (AED 61 billion), up 48% year-on-year.

Higher trading volumes are generally associated with stronger market liquidity and broader participation, both of which tend to support price discovery and investor confidence over time.

Revenue Growth Supported by Core Operations

DFM’s financial performance was driven by a combination of operating income and investment-related returns.

Operating income reached $46.8 million (AED 171.9 million), while investment returns and other income contributed $22.1 million (AED 81.2 million). Expenses rose to $16.3 million (AED 59.8 million), compared with $14.0 million (AED 51.6 million) in the same period last year.

The figures suggest that revenue growth outpaced cost increases, allowing profitability to expand alongside trading activity.

Foreign and Institutional Investors Maintain Strong Presence

Investor composition remained a defining feature of the quarter. Foreign investors accounted for 54% of total trading value, while institutional investors represented 70% of overall activity. At the same time, the exchange attracted 20,702 new investors, with 79% coming from outside the UAE.

A strong mix of international and institutional participation is often viewed as a sign of market depth, as it brings both capital scale and a broader investor base.

Market Capitalization Holds at Elevated Levels

DFM’s total market capitalization stood at $244.2 billion (AED 897 billion) at the end of March 2026.

Market capitalization levels typically reflect both company valuations and investor sentiment, and sustained high levels can indicate continued confidence in listed firms and the broader economic environment.

While quarterly performance can vary, the latest results align with a period of sustained activity in regional equity markets, where trading volumes and investor participation have remained relatively strong.

In this environment, exchanges benefit from increased liquidity and engagement, which tend to reinforce overall market stability and visibility.

What stands out in DFM’s first-quarter results is not only the scale of growth, but also the consistency across key indicators. Rising profit, increased trading volumes, strong participation from foreign and institutional investors, and a continued inflow of new market participants all point to a market that is not only active but also broadening in participation.

While future performance will depend on broader market conditions, the first quarter of 2026 suggests that Dubai Financial Market has entered the year with solid underlying momentum, supported by sustained trading activity and a steadily expanding investor base.
