Emirates NBD has entered into a partnership with the Dubai Future District Fund to identify and test financial technology and artificial intelligence tools, creating a route for selected startups to potentially deploy their technology within the banking group.

The two organizations plan to source, assess and pilot technology designed for financial services. Potential projects are expected to cover areas ranging from AI-powered banking and regulatory technology to digital assets and services for small and medium-sized businesses.

Rather than establishing a new investment fund, the arrangement connects Emirates NBD with startups and technology companies already within the Dubai Future District Fund's network. Successful trials could progress toward broader commercial deployment at the bank.

From Startup Technology to Bank Pilots

Under the arrangement, Emirates NBD will gain access to a pipeline of FinTech and AI companies associated with DFDF, with the two sides expected to identify technologies that could address specific banking requirements. The process is intended to move beyond startup discovery by providing a framework for testing technology inside an established financial institution before any potential commercial implementation.

Areas identified by the bank include AI-driven banking capabilities, embedded finance, digital assets, SME technology, WealthTech, compliance tools and next-generation banking infrastructure. These categories cover different parts of financial services, meaning the eventual applications could range from internal systems and regulatory processes to technologies used directly in customer-facing services.

Marwan Hadi, Emirates NBD's group head of retail banking and wealth management, said: “Emirates NBD is delighted to be part of this innovative partnership with another national entity focused on transforming Dubai into a nexus for business and an integrated environment for investment. By partnering with DFDF, we anticipate delivering more personalised and intelligent banking experiences, faster deployment of digital banking capabilities, improved fraud detection and financial security, enhanced SME and business banking solutions and seamless onboarding services.”

DFDF Connects Capital with Commercial Testing

The Dubai Future District Fund is an evergreen venture capital fund of funds anchored by the Dubai International Financial Centre and Dubai Future Foundation. It was established with an initial commitment of approximately $272.3 million (AED 1 billion) to invest in venture funds and startups connected to future-economy sectors.

DFDF's role in the Emirates NBD agreement is therefore different from that of a conventional technology vendor. Its portfolio and investment network can serve as a source of companies for potential banking use cases, while the partnership gives participating startups an opportunity to test whether their products can function within the operational and regulatory requirements of a large financial institution.

Nader Albastaki, managing director at DFDF, said: “We are excited to partner with Emirates NBD, a progressive leader in the financial sector. This collaboration is a testament to our shared vision for a future where innovation drives progress and enhances the daily lives of individuals and businesses. It provides our high-potential startups with an unparalleled opportunity to explore pilot opportunities, strategic partnerships and commercial deployment within Emirates NBD’s extensive ecosystem, ultimately contributing to Dubai’s ambition of becoming a global hub for digital finance and entrepreneurship.”

Emirates NBD Expands Its Startup Partnerships

The DFDF agreement comes as Emirates NBD has been building several channels for working with technology companies. In July, the bank announced a separate partnership with startup accelerator Techstars focused on enterprise applications for AI and FinTech startups across areas including compliance, wealth management, SME banking and capital markets.

Emirates NBD also operates its National Digital Talent Incubator, or NDTI, which works with Emirati founders developing technology businesses. The bank said at its 2026 NDTI Founders Summit that the program had reached 22 founders across five cohorts during its first two years. Participants work with teams across strategy, technology and venture development while gaining exposure to investors and corporate partners.

The programs illustrate several routes through which Emirates NBD is evaluating external technology: founder development through NDTI, a broader international startup pipeline through Techstars, and now access to companies within DFDF's investment network.
